'Kingston' The Book Bear - an early 20th century miniature teddy bear of unknown origin, discovered secreted within the pages of a book. Accompanied by a later typed note reading 'The Book Bear belonged to Joseph Bowley who's career as a missionary spanned three continents and 22 years (1927-1949). Kingston travelled everywhere with The Rev Bowley but to preserve his credibility, he was secreted within the pages of 'The Three Lieutenants,' book.' The book has been cleverly fashioned to house a small compartment in which the bear can be placed. The inside paste-down has inscribed upon it 'St Andrew's Swimming Club - 1896 - Presented To Joseph Bowley - For regular attendance.' Bear survives in 'well loved' condition and measures 9cm tall.

It is presumed that the teddy bear was named 'Kingston,' after the book's author WHG Kingston.
