Cresta Run taboggan The actual toboggan as used by Commander Valentine Francis Gibbs ( marked) [1881-1918] Records show that Commander Gibbs won the Curzon Cup on the Cresta Run in 1913 and 1914, the Bott Cup in 1914, the Grand National in 1914, The Macklin Junction Cup in 1914 and he won his colours in 1913. When he won the Curzon Cup in 1913 he was on leave from the Royal yacht 'Victoria and Albert'. He was killed at Zeebrugge in WWI whilst commanding HMS IRIS II for the Royal Navy in Operation ZO off the Belgian coast when attacked from the mole and shore batteries . It is said that Gibb's fearlessness exhibited at the Cresta Run made him the 'right man for the job !' It comes to sale via the family . ''The Cresta Run is a natural ice skeleton racing toboggan track in eastern Switerland . Located in the winter sports town of St. Moritz, the (0.753 m) run is one of the few in the world dedicated entirely to skeleton. It was built in 1884 near the hamlet of Cresta in the municipality of Celerina / Schlarigna by Major Bulpett, eventual founder of the St. Moritz Tobagganing Club (SMTC).'' Our sincerest thanks goes to Lady Brabazon of the SMTC for providing Commander Valentine Gibb's Information. 15'' wide x 47 1/4'' long
