E Gay Lamaille for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, a late 19th century brass alarm carriage timepiece, signed white enamel dial with subsidiary alarm dial, the movement stamped EGL, Paris, numbered 318, 13.5cm.
Georges Lamaille formed a partnership with Emile Gay, c.1880. They marked their clocks EGL in an oval (presumably a contraction of their initials (E)mile (G)ay and (G)eorges (L)amaille.
Emile Gay moved to London in 1860/61. He initially partnered with Adolphe Vicarino before Lamaille bought Vicarino out.
The firm remained in business until at least 1903.
Movement working when catalogued, the alarm does not work, replacement platform, lacking one glass side.
