The Admiral Gardner and the Britannia, wrecked 1809 Ingot cast from Cornish copper at Hayle, Engraved with the emblem of the English East India Company and the words ‘ Admiral Gardner – wrecked on the Goodwin Sands – 25th January 1809.’ Inset into the ingot, which was cargo, are two copper 10 Cash coins of Madras, and two 20 Cash, the coins showing obverse and reverse. Weight 11kg. 14.5cms x 9cms, x 2.5cms. The Admiral Gardner and the Britannia, en route to Madras, had just left the Thames when they encountered a gale. Both ships anchored, but were dragged ashore and wrecked.
