A Vic 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s sword of the Madras Cavalry, curved fullered blade 35½”, with maker’s name “Maynard & Harris, 126 Leadenhall St, London” (the style of the firm 1850-68) on one side at forte and “Warranted Proved” on the other with stamped name “Maynard”, blade etched on one side with cross lances and pennants with scrolls “Madras” and “Cavalry”, and on the other side with crowned VR cypher, all in finely scrolled panels, steel hilt with knucklebow and quillon, sideloop and 2 sidebars, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. GC the blade retaining some original polish. Plate 5 £300-350
