South Africa Medal 1877-79 with clasp 1879 (14109 Sapper W Newell RE) and QV Army LSGC Medal (14109 L/Corp: W Newell RE). With a folder of copied research, Newells Military History sheet shows his presence at Ulundi, 4th July 1879, Military Operations against the Boers 1880-81, and Present at the Siege of Lydenberg. Born Ely, Cambs 1857. Enlisted 1877, and discharged after 21 years 1898. Trade listed as a turner and fitter. Died Ely 1930. LSGC Medal July 1895. He was one of only approx 70 men at the Siege of Lydenberg Jan-March 1881. A rare group (2)
