Star Lot: An original Tony (AR) McCarthy (Irish contemporary) oil on canvas painting titled 'Evening Light, Roundstone'. Features a beautifully captured coastal scene in the lilac evening sun. Signed AR McCarthy bottom left and housed under glass in a gilt frame. Framers sticker to verso. McCarthy has a good auction history with works fetching into the hundreds at Whytes.

Tony (AR) McCarthy began painting in 1968 when he attended Limerick School of Art. Upon moving to Dublin in 1968 he studied painting with Henry Healy RHA and at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD).
Tony is primarily a 'plein air' painter, painting mostly in oils and capturing the atmosphere and spontaneity of the moment with broad brush strokes. His output is mainly seascape and landscape and his favourite painting location is North Connemara.
He exhibits in a number of leading galleries and has participated in many group exhibitions. He has exhibited frequently in RHA and Oireachtas exhibitions and his paintings are held in private and corporate collections, at home and abroad.
