Vice-Admiral Hubert Seeds Monroe, D.S.O., was appointed a Midshipman on the 1st April 1904 and Sub Lieutenant on the 5th October 1897, Serving during the Boer War with the Cruiser HMS Forte, he was promoted to Lieutenant in June 1900. At the outbreak of the Great War he held the rank of Commander and in June 1918 was appointed Captain. Remaining with the Royal Navy after the war he was appointed ADC to the King in 1929 and later that year was promoted to Rear Admiral. He retired from the RN on the 31st July 1934 with the rank of Vice Admiral.
