A selection of blue topaz set jewellery including marcasite set examples, comprised of a circular brooch, two pendants, two pairs of stud earrings and a foliate brooch.
We are pleased to be offering this lot from the stock of family run firm Shipton and Co., who were based in Hastings White Rock area, and who were unfortunately forced to close their doors in 2014 after a section of the rock face above collapsed onto their shop, making the building unsafe. Blue topaz became a very popular stone in the 20th century due to it's bright colour, high lustre and hardness. Typically occurring in nature as a clear stone to those with hues of yellow, pink, orange and brown, natural blue crystals are very rare, however treatment of pale topaz can produce delightful hues of blue sometimes referred to as 'Swiss blue' or for the more darker sapphire-like stones 'London blue'. A modern birth stone for December, blue topaz is also associated with wisdom and communication.
