WW2 Immediate Battle of Cemetery Hill Meiktila Military Medal to 9615 L-Hav Nek Alam ISF numerous edge knocks, suspension re-attached thus fair/fine.
The MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 18th September 1945 serving with 4th J&K If (Indian State Forces) "For exemplary devotion to duty and superb courage in action on Cemetery Hill, Meiktila
on the night 22/23 March 1945.
On that date NK (L/HAV) NEK ALAM was 2 i/c of a platoon which bore the brunt of heavy and persistent enemy attacks throughout the night. From the begining he undertook the difficult task of ammunition supply which he did, despite intense enemy grenading and automatic fire, by moving in the open from post to post redistributing and collecting ammunition from men who had become casualties.
Whilst doing this he found three Japs cutting the wire in front of one of his post, the occupants of which having all been wounded. He, therefore, took two grenades, crawled forward until he was certain of not missing them and killed all three as they were entering the perimeter. He then returned to his post reorganised its defence and gave first aid to the wounded.
NK (L/HAV) NEK ALAM displayed leadership of the highest order, inspiring his men by his coolness and courage and continually encouraging them throughout an action which accounted for more than one hundred enemy dead and materially helped to prevent a serious threat to Meiktila."
