JOAN BLAEU (1596-1673) A MAP OF STJERNEBORG 'THE CASTLE OF THE STARS' the astronomical observatory built by Tycho Brahe, coloured engraving, 45cm x 55cm; together with a map of Uraniborg, Brahe's previous observatory, 46cm x 56cm (2)

Provenance: A Private Collection of Cartography (lots 47-54)

Stjerneborg, built by Tycho Brahe, the Danish astronomer, in 1584, was used by him to make observations for his new star catalogue. Brahe's first observatory, known as Uraniborg (Heavenly Castle), proved too small for his increasing activity and expanding battery of observing instruments
