WW2 1940 London Blitz ARP Warden Family Kings Commendation For Brave Conduct Medal Group. A rare London Blitz East Acton Kings Commendation For Brave Conduct group awarded to Miss Gwendoline Sarah Bessie Clark a Trench Marshal at The Green East Acton when it was hit by a bomb on the morning of the 1st October 1940. Comprising: Kings Commendation For Brave Conduct Pair of Bakelite badges in original box. Defence Medal, in original forwarding box addressed to Miss G.S.B. Clark 10 Long Drive East Acton London W3. Forwarding certificate for the replacement Silver Laurel Leaf (emblem not present). Accompanied by a Defence medal and box awarded to Miss F.B.L. Clark, same address. Also a photocopy of the original recommendation of the award. Miss Gwendoline Sarah Bessie Clark is confirmed as living at 10 Long Drive East Acton with her sisters Francis B.L. Clark and Marjorie Clark. It was Marjorie that she shared the duties of Trench Marshal at The Green Shelter East Acton, the two sisters are noted as never missing their duty during the air raids. On the morning of the 1st October 1940, the shelter was partly hit by a German bomb and part collapse they cooling aided the wounded and helped dig out the trapped before the rescue services arrived. These life saving tasks they undertook with total disregard to the danger and their safety. After the rescue parties took over, Gwendoline and her sister than ensured a steady flow of hot tea was supplied. The recommendation was put forward by Mr James Neal, District Warden and supported by Ben Hawes Shelter Marshal. The spelling of Clark on the recommendation is with an E, the correct spelling is without the E as per the medal box
