PROVENANCE: Commissioned from the artist by the sitter's family.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Maureen Coatman was a British sculptor born in Woking, Surrey. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, and completed numerous private and public commissions, including for many churches and schools. She is best known for her bust of the racehorse Red Rum.
