Star Lot: A pair of large truly fantastic original antique oil on canvas paintings dating to the 19th century. Signed Luigi M. bottom right. Each are concerned with boisterous Cavaliers of the 17th century, one featuring an altercation over a card game and the other a visit to the blacksmiths for repairs. The Cavaliers are in the bright ostentatious garb that became their trademark. Both work are rendered in with loose brushwork giving a sense of dynamism and energy to the scenes. Fantastic vividly rendered pieces that are housed in beautiful ornate gilt frames in super condition . These are superb quality and could be worth a fortune if they were attributed. We have not removed them from their frames.
