A MIRROR-BACKED BUILDER'S HALF-MODEL FOR THE S.S. BLUSH ROSE, BUILT BY DE MERWEDE S&M (HOLLAND) FOR RICHARD HUGHES & CO., LIVERPOOL, 1913
the 46in. laminated and carved hull with white lined decks and hatch covers, gold plated fittings as appropriate, open bridge with binnacle and telegraph, cutaway funnel and masts, fitted lifeboat in davits, mounted on back-silvered top mirror above the waterline, with ivorine builder's plate on wooden base, contained within original glazed case with top glass and angled end mirrors -- 16 x 61 x 7½in. (40.5 x 155 x 19cm.)
Around midnight on the 2nd August 1945, Blush Rose (registered at 645 tons) sank after a collision in dense fog with Blue Funnel Line's 7644-ton S.S. Glaucus twenty miles off Holyhead whilst in passage between Dublin and Preston in ballast. Her fifteen crew were rescued by Glaucus and landed at Holyhead.
