LA VILLE DE PARIS (42): Letter written from Joinville-le-Pont a week after the battle of Champigny resulted in most inhabitants being evacuated into Paris, to which the letter jokingly refers; 4pp sheet addressed to the writer's mother near Poitiers; Cérès 20c stamp tied by plain star with Paris cds for 13. December 1870; no further marks. This balloon was captured by the Prussian army after a crash landing : the mail was released after 6 weeks.
