Having studied at Ruskin School of art, Christopher gained his master's degree at Oxford University. He was known for his precise and atmospheric landscapes, this 1961 painting depicting a street in Algarve Portugal. In 1990 he received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation award 'because of the exceptional quality of work and the extent of artistic achievement.'
