** The artist originally worked as an engineer, librarian, farmer and beekeeper but in 1912 he started studying at Heatherley's School of Art. he came late to the art world but was to have a significant and long standing impact on his contemporaries. He specialised in linocuts but also illustrated, painted and made woodcuts. His linocuts are characterised by bold sweeping lines and bright overlaid colours the subjects were chosen by most of The Grosvenor School. He exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1921, followed by Paris in 1922 and London at the RBA from 1923 onwards also exhibiting regularly at The Redfern Gallery and abroad, he was a member of the Seven and Five Society in 1922/3 who's members included Henry Moore and Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, he was later a member of the Grubb Group and collaborated with Edith Lawrence with whom he had an interior design business. He was influenced by Cubism, Futurism and Vorticsm, his work expressed dynamic rhythm through bold simple forms. His pupils included various now - famous print artists such as Lili Tschudi, Cyril Power, Eileen Mayo and Sybil Andrews.
The work is in good condition and has been partially laid onto what appears to be the artist's own original pencil and wash mount and contained within a wooden frame that has probably been made by the artist and coloured with a silver wash to the hollow of the wooden frame, it has the original backing board with the artist's original labels to the reverse.
