A RARE AND UNUSUAL LANCASHIRE OAK BOX SEATED ARMCHAIR, FROM EAST BARSHAM MANOR, NORFOLK, CIRCA 1660-1670. The armchair with floral raised lunate cresting rail flanked by pyramid cap finials, above a horizontal interlace carved panel with twin lower square panels carved with a thistle and a tulip, divided by geometric carved rails. Above the rare hinged seat opening to a boxed compartment. The scrolled arms joined by baluster uprights above a front rail with further leafy frieze and baluster and reel turned legs joined by plain stretchers, 103cm high, 61cm wide and 57cm deep. Provenance - Purchased from East Barsham Manor sale, mid 1980s.
