A Japanese Kamakura-bori lacquer tray, second quarter 20th c, carved with a pair of phoenix in flight, 49cm diam, signed in red lacquer Pollack Sama Kamakura Hakkodo Saku, with seal Hakkodo, Kawakita Nagamasa [made by Hakkodo lacquer studio, Kamakura, a gift from Kawakita Nagamasa (1903-1981) to Mr / Mrs Pollack]
Provenance: Presented by Kawakita Nagamasa (1903-1981) Japanese entrepreneur and film producer to Mr and Mrs Pollack. He and his wife and daughter were important figures in the development of the Japanese film industry and promoting Japanese cinema to an international audience
