A large well weathered 19th century sandstone carving depicting a coat of arms with the Sheep of St Wilfrid & PP Princeps Pacis, Latin for Prince of Peace, The Historic crest of the city of Preston, this was once held in on paw by one of the three large griffins on the top of Old Preston Town Hall (built in the Gothic Revival style in 1867, destroyed by fire in 1947), clearly visible in the historic images of that impressive early Victorian civic building, still bears the scars from the night of the fire, 40 by 67cms.
