A French Empire style gilt metal mounted frame, late 19th or early 20th century, the gilt metal bordered cushioned velvet frame set with a relief cast gilt metal eagle, wreaths and maidens, and surmounted with a ribboned laurel wreath, easel stand verso, the aperture 9.2cm x 6cm, the frame 20cm x 14.5cm overall
The piece shows tarnishing and wear to the gilt finish throughout. The pins securing the castings appear to match the pins on the back of the frame, but may be later. The velvet shows some fading an wear throughout. Evidence of possible repair to the surmount and to the frame corners.
