A CHINESE BLUE & WHITE ‘VUNG TAU CARGO’ PORCELAIN MINIATURE VASE, also known as a ‘dolls house’ vase, of baluster form, the body painted in traditional blue designs, with some fritting’s as photographed. Dimensions: 4.6cm high approx. More about the Vung Tau Cargo: The ‘Vung Tau Cargo’ was discovered by chance in 1989 by a Vietnamese fisherman, trawling the sea bed on the Southern Coast of Vietnam. Upon its salvage in a joint-venture operation, the contents were sold at Christie’s Amsterdam in a two-day sale of 1011 lots on the 7th and 8th of April 1992. The ship was an Asian trading vessel, bound for Indonesia from China. Experts date the ship contents within the reign of the emperor Kangxi (1662-1722). The contents of the 'Vung Tau Cargo' are an excellent example of the rapid increase in the production of blue and white porcelain during the Kangxi period, much of which was made for the Dutch Export market.
