Autograph letter signed 'Wellington' to Colonel Torrens. 1 & 3/4 pp., 4to., Seysse near Toulouse, 1 April 1814. Explaining his criteria concerning the recommendations for medals in the Peninsula War which ended after the battle of Toulouse on 10 April, 'I have received your letter of 16th March regarding the recommendations for the Medals for the Battle of Victoria. I make a distinction between a general action in which we pursue the Enemy from the ground, and one in a defensive position¦.I hope that this explanation will be satisfactory to His Royal Highness.' *Condition: Original light folds and very occasional spotting.
