Ryle, Pte., R.M.; WW2 Defence Medal/ARP badge, 1937 Coronation Medal, GRI; 1953 Coronation Medal EIIR, pin-mounted for wear in an incorrect order, the last medal mounted later; research, including Royal Marines Short Service papers, First World War Medal Roll & SWB certificate, 1937 & 1953 Coronation Medal Rolls (HM Treasury Messenger/Office Keeper) and L/G dated 10th June 1948 for his B.E.M. award Walter William Ryle was born in Islington, November 10th 1895, and enlisted in the Royal Marines at Southampton on October 14th 1915. Serving in ships and shore establishments under war conditions, including active service with the Royal Marine Brigade in France from September 1916 to March 1917. He was invalided as unfit for further service on July 4th 1917 and is entitled to the WW1 SWB (not included). He subsequently served in HM Treasury pre and post-WW2, based in London, and died there aged 74 in 1970
