Weighing Machine Cards - a piece of highly detailed, mixed media, original artwork for the cigarette card series of Weighing Machine Cards by Mardon, Son and Hall Ltd, 'Association Footballers', believed to be unproduced, depicting a portrait of Stanley Matthews (1954). Includes multiple pieces of paperwork containing the details and signed approval from Stanley Matthews for the use of his photograph for the artwork, dated 1954. Sir Stanley Matthews was an English footballer, (1 February 1915 – 23 February 2000) who played as an outside right and is regarded as one of the greatest British football players of all time. During his career he played primarily for Stoke City, and briefly for Blackpool and Toronto as a loan player. He is the only player to have been knighted and has been the first winner of both European Footballer of the Year and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year awards.
