Miniature group Order of the Indian Empire Companion’s breast badge in gold and enamel (CIE), WW1 Military Cross, BWM, Victory Medal, 1935 Jubilee Medal, 1937 Coronation Medal, 1953 Coronation Medal, Belgian Order of the Crown and Croix de Guerre attributed to Sir Frederick Tymms, South Lancashire Regiment, RFC and RAF, very fine and better, court mounted for display. He was appointed KCIE in London Gazette dated 1st January 1947, CIE 1st January 1935, MC 1st January 1917, Belgian Order of the Crown 24th September 1917. With typed research and copied obituary, he was born in Tenby 4/8/89, commissioned in 4th Bn South Lancs 1915, transferred to RFC 1917 and flew as an observer in BE2s, 1918 part of British Mission to USA to advise on aircraft development and production. After the war, he accompanied Maj Brackley in attempt to fly a Handley Page 0/400 bomber from London to Cape Town, which ended in a forced landing in the Sudan. He joined Civil Aviation Dept, 1924 commanded Air Section of Oxford University Arctic Expedition to Sptzbergen, which was equipped with Avro 504. They reached 80 degrees 15 minutes north during 1 flight, which at the time was a record. 1927 he was appointed Superintendent and Civil Air Traffic Officer for the Cairo to Karachi route. So successful was he at this, that he was seconded to the governments of Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika for air surveys and organisation of Cape to Cairo air route. 1929 he was back in London as Chief Technical Assistant at Dept of Civil Aviation and in 1929 a founder member of Company and then Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators of British Empire. In 1931 he was appointed Director of Civil Aviation in India and helped developed the air routes on to Australia. He retired in 1955 and died 9/12/87. Ex Wellington Auctions Feb 2012 with catalogue.
