1928 Morris Oxford Flatnose. Registration number UY 3857. Chassis number 267940. Engine number 301842.
William Morris's sturdy and affordable Cowley and Oxford models helped change British motoring from an elitist pastime to transport for the masses, and therefore hold an important place in automotive history. Not only did he foresee the huge demand for private transport but he also revolutionised concepts of both marketing and production in order to satisfy it. Introduced in 1926, the 'Flatnose' Morris drew heavily on the design of its much-loved 'Bullnose' predecessor. Built on a light yet sturdy leaf-sprung ladder chassis and powered by a choice of two torquey four-cylinder side-valve engines mated to a three-speed manual gearbox, it tackled the primitive period road network with aplomb. Famed for their durability, many 'Flatnoses' remained in regular use after WW2.
This 11.9 HP tourer was manufactured in 1928 and is understood to have been supplied new to a Mr. F. Revers of Bircklehamton Hall. Fitted with the 11.9HP four-cylinder engine and three-speed manual gearbox, the ‘Flatnose’ is finished in complementary red and black paintwork, with brown interior upholstery and black hood. ‘UY 3857’ is thought to have spent approximately thirty years off the road before being restored in c.1996, it is a matching chassis and engine numbers example. Benefitting from a repaint, along with new seats, carpet and roof in 2020 the Morris is offered with an owner’s manual, accessories and equipment booklet and a current V5C. It was driven to the saleroom
