An Indian Painting on Cloth Depicting an Elephant, Used at a Palace's Gates to Welcome Maharaja as an Auspicious Symbol, 1990.

A large-scale Indian cloth painting depicting a richly adorned ceremonial elephant. Rendered in vibrant pigments on textile, the elephant is shown mid-stride with majestic posture, featuring an ornate saddlecloth, head ornaments, and anklets, all indicative of royal processions. The composition is framed with a dark border, emphasizing the elephant's grandeur. Such cloth paintings were traditionally used at palace gates during festive occasions or royal arrivals, where the elephant—considered an auspicious symbol—welcomed the Maharaja and his entourage.
