William Gale (1823-1909): oil on board, Eastern Girl's Head, attributed by label verso (unsigned), image 14 x 18cm, overall 26 x 30cm.
Gale exhibited annually at the Royal Academy 1844–93, but was never elected a member. He exhibited regularly at the British Institution and at the Royal Society of British Artists. Portraits, historical and biblical subjects compile the majority of his works.
