Henry Edward Palk was born in Zealupton, Devon in 1886. A pre-war regular, he landed in France on the 22nd of August 1914 with the 1st Devon’s.

He survived the war, being discharged on the 21st of February 1916, after having revied a GSW to the right leg in April 1915, which fractured his femur.
