Dan Sprod The Tregurtha Log 'Relating the Adventurous Life of Capt. Edward Primrose Tregurtha.’ first edition 1980, published by The Blubber Head Press, Sandy Bay, Tasmania. This edition is limited to 600 copies, numbered and signed, plus 30 copies (of which 25 are for sale), numbered and signed and bound in full red leather, gold blocked with a ship on the front and the title on the spine. This is one of the 30 copies. This copy is in fine condition. tipped-in frontispiece of Edward Primrose Tregurtha and 2 headpieces in colour, plus 4 b/w. Tregutha’s boyhood was spent in the villages of Newlyn, Mousehole and Penzance until at the age of 9 ½ years, he followed the family tradition and joined the Royal Navy becoming a clerk to his father. The log follows his life through the Napoleonic Wars, The East India Company’s China Run, and whaling in the South Seas. From 1858 to his death, he became shipmaster to the Port Phillip district. A well-researched work regarding the life of a young Tregurtha from the village of Paul and the journey he undertook. Loosely inserted 2 letters from the author.
