Conn Transitional Alto Saxophone C1932-33 with Microtuner, stamped "Selmer Paris" in beautiful condition. Patent date is Dec 8th 1914, 1119954, stamped A M252430 with an L (low pitch) underneath. Inscribed on the front, "C.G. Conn Ltd Elkhart-Ind, U.S.A. Sole Agents J. R. Lafleur & Son Ltd, 8-10 Benman St London", which was a trade name for Hawkes and Son (which later becomes part of Boosey and Hawkes), the engraving unique to specific exports of this type to London. The golden finish remains in immaculate order, barely a mark to mention. Last serviced in 2018, not used since. A very fine and rare example. The case has age related wear, purple velvet lined, also made by "Conn, Choice of the Artists". On the top is a badge, "Modern Music 26 Wardour Street London W.1. Ger". Wardour Street is a street in Soho, City of Westminster, London. It runs north from Leicester Square, through Chinatown, across Shaftesbury Avenue to Oxford Street, which perhaps gives some insight to the life of this piece. A small amount of accessories in the case, including a Boosey & Hawkes small vintage tin. Resources: saxophone.org/museum/saxophones/model/19. Notes: MBE PTE W. E. Webb 3rd Hussars (lots 412, 413) survives WW1. Later, a musically gifted son is born, who in turn presented this item as a gift to his son, who in the end, simply preferred to sing. The Sax was swiftly "ungifted" and lovingly cared for, before eventually being re-gifted back to the owner of this item, Grandson. Not only a beautiful Saxophone, but a lovely story.
