Lenkiewicz is regarded by many as a great British artist and his work still has its collectors and admirers. He has been taken to the hearts of many and referred to as a painters painter. His work is collected both nationally and internationally. This particular painting is an exceptionally fine example from a private collection which has only recently become available from abroad. The owner was a long standing personal friend of the artist. This particular painting is of Karen Cambriello a hugely important model and figure in the artists life. It is interesting to notice the artist has painted his own reflected self portrait in the cup shown in the process of painting the painting. This is actually not an unusual trick used by many of the great fine artists which influenced Robert Lenkiewicz. For example the most famous being Jan Van Eyck and the Arnolfini Portrait. Or the famous Still Life by Clara Peeters and many others. The artist painted Karen many times often using the colour red as the theme and both this painting and another painting also titled Karen In Red show’s the model in red. Pets are a common subject in classical art and this painting is no different. The cat has an interesting psychological aspect which Lenkiewicz used a number of other times ie the model’s eyes and the cat’s eyes are a similar colour.
