A Victorian naval bicorn black japanned hat tin, bearing the makers name ''Galt, Gieve & Co Naval Outfitters Portsmouth'' and a brass name plate ''T.J. Hardinge R.N; another, with brass nameplate to H.E. DANNREUTHER R.N (2) Galt, Gieve & Co operated between 1859 and 1880 and ran the business from 111 High Street Portsmouth. Rear-Admiral Hubert Edward Dannreuther, DSO, was one of only six men to survive the sinking of HMS Invincible at the Battle of Jutland in 1916
