A 1595 GENEVA HOLY BIBLE, also referred to as a “Breeches” Bible, lacking all prelims from the Old Testament title page up to page 7, Genesis Chapter 16, the New Testament title page identifies the date of printing as 1595, so a 16th Century copy, printed by Christopher Barker. The same date and printer are present on The Book of Psalmes bound in following the New Testament though it lacks the pages after page 143. Apparently, after the English Civil War many Old Testament title pages were unceremoniously ripped out so that their owners wouldn’t be accused of being Royalists by the Cromwell Government as prior to the war all Bibles were printed under licence from the King with Crown Copyrights. The binding is somewhat distressed and in need of attention but worthy of the same.
