Martini-Henry .577/450 Mark I/II service rifle, dated 1872, 32.5 in. sighted barrel fitted with ramp and ladder rear sight, filled cut at the breech, full stocked with regulation steel mounts and cleaning rod, the action stamped with a crown over V.R. over ENFIELD over 1872, Enfield roundel on butt, ‘S-X’ [Strengthened Receiver] and condemned barrel mark on receiver. Fully working action. All major parts with Broad Arrow, ‘WD’ and inspection marks, this is a Mark II upgrade of the rare Mark I Second Pattern Martini-Henry that was used for field trials prior to the introduction of the Mark I Third (or Approved) Pattern, which was made at Enfield between 1874 and 1876. Mark I/II Rifles were used in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. Obsolete calibre; no licence required.
