Naval - Australian Navy - Sir George Patey group of approx. 14 postcards showing the ceremony in 1913 when Rear-Admiral Sir George Patey, the first Commander in Chief of the Australian Navy, was Knighted on board the HMAS 'Australia' by King George V, prior to the voyage which took him to take up his post in Australia. Some images slightly faded, but each one is clearly legible. This was the first time that a person had been Knighted on the deck of a ship since Sir Francis Drake was similarly Knighted by Queen Elizabeth I.
