BENGAL AND AFGHAN JOURNALS AND PERSONAL PAPERS
by Captain Charles Edward Stewart (1844-1887). A sizeable archive of his later career dating from 1861 to his death in 1887, on board the steam yacht Ceylon and other ships including the Bengal, Afghan, Scotland, Davies Nicholas, United Service, Phoebe Dunbar and President.
A large part of the archive is concerned with the steam yacht Ceylon with numerous advertisements, an explanatory booklet with a coloured lithograph of the Ceylon on front cover, menus, list of passengers, etc., two log books, one of the Afghan plying between Europe and the Far East, Swatow, Hong Kong, etc., two others in 2 volumes of the Bengal, London to New York and return, thence to New Orleans and on through Asia, Jeddah, Singapore, Yokohama, Kobe, Shanghai, etc. There are several printed certificates of character (all very good) and numerous written testimonies, a cabinet photograph of Stewart at the age of forty and other photographs.
