An early 19th century pewter Imperial pint mug, circa 1830

The truncated cone body with reeded and ovolo-moulded footrim, single-curve handle with upper escutcheon reinforcement and flush lower attachment, crowned ‘WR’ mark to rim, along with Oxford 1834 verification mark, touchmark inside base of James Stanton I, (fl.1815-1835), (PS8886), the drum engraved ‘Robt Wildegoose 3 Compasses’, capacity 20 fl.oz., height 11.9cm

Robert Wildgoose (1810-1872) was a grocer, carpenter and landlord of The Three Compasses, Cuddesdon, Oxfordshire. The public house still stands, but is named The Bat & Ball. Sold with a typed copy of the Wildgoose family tree
