WW1 OBE (Military) (1919 hallmarks), BWM and Victory Medal with MID oakleaf to Lt Col C.W.G. Palmer, Territorial Force War Medal to Capt C.W.G. Palmer Hamps R. and KGV Territorial Decoration (1919 hallmarks), good very fine or better. Charles William Gustavus Palmer's OBE was announced in the London Gazette dated 3rd June 1919. He was Mentioned in Marshall's despatches for Mesopotamia serving as a Major with 2/7th Bn in London Gazette dated 12th January 1920 Sold with a locket with officer's photo and floral array.
He was commissioned in 4th Vol Bn Hampshire Regt 13/2/08, Bn re-numbered 7th Bn 1/4/08, promoted Lieut 2/12/08, Capt 1/8/12, Act Lt Col whilst commanding a Bn 24-27/10/17, Lt Col 28/2/26, appointed Commanding Officer of 5/7th Bn Hants Regt 1/3/26, resigned his commission 25/10/27. A newspaper article in 1926 stated "he joined the 4th Hants Volunteer Cyclist Bn as a Private about 32 years ago."
With good range of copied research including LGs, MIC, census etc, he was born 14/1/75 in Bournemouth, wine merchant by trade, left 1/7th Bn Sept 1914 and helped to form 2/7th Bn who he went to India with 1915, served Mesopotamia Sept 1917 to Jan 1919. (See photo) (R)
