A RARE LIGHTHOUSE SCIOPTIC BALL, 19TH CENTURY


comprising two brass plates with securing nuts enclosing brass ball with wooden bung -- 9 x 11 x 7in. (23 x 28 x 18cm.)



Clamped on either side of a shutter, when the wooden bung is withdrawn, it allowed the lighthouse keeper to use a telescope in foul weather whilst keeping safe and dry.




Old white paint backplate, structurally fine in condition.
