EXTREMELY RARE DUBLIN TREBLE POSTAGE MARK; 28 Oct. 1785 EL (light file fold, small repair to rear) to Dublin with blurred but rare s/l "MITCHELSTOWN" h.s. at top right and signed [Viscount] ''Kingsbro' at lower left but endorsed 'Date altd' (free letters subject to daily limits) and subject to inspection with corresponding Inspectors Crown mark on front and struck with the "TREBLE POSTAGE" h.s. and rated '1/-' (3 x 4d over 40 miles rate) accordingly as a penalty. Significant Irish exhibition item - the earliest of four examples believed extent - and important example of postal consequences for abuse of privilege.
