A length of 1660-1670 Italian Venetian Gros Point needle lace, this heavy needle lace was made with a wide cordonnet padded with wool, using close buttonhole stitch, to create large scrolling patterns in heavy relief, linked with short brides and picots. Worn by royalty, aristocrats and also high ranking cardinals for their church vestments and altar cloths. 90cm long x 10cm deep. Condition - possibly cut from a deeper and longer flounce. Some original brides and picots missing or replaced, acceptable for it’s age and use
