DINO ROSIN (ITALIAN 1948 - ): A MACEDONIA AND CLEAR GLASS SCULPTURE 'BABELE QUADRATA'
With ten interlocking triangles raised on an integral cylindrical glass base, signed
95cm high
Dino Rosin is arguably one of the great Italian glass artists of our time. Born in Venice in 1948, he grew up on Murano, the world-famous glass-producing island in the Venice lagoon. At the age of 12 he began his apprenticeship at Barovier and Toso glass factory, where he trained in this ancient artisan tradition. In 1988, as part of their initiative to introduce students to cutting edge artists, the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State, founded by famous glass artist Dale Chihuly, honoured Rosin with an invitation to demonstrate his way of working molten glass. His skilful use of ‘calcedonia’ (Chalcedony) glass is unique, making his pieces easily recognisable and highly collectable. Each work is unique in its colouration.
