After John J Audubon (American, 1785-1851),
Five large ornithological studies comprising: "Passenger Pigeon", "Le Petit Caporal", "Swallow Tailed Hawk", "Willow Grous" and "White-crowned Pigeon",
Facsimile prints on paper from Audubon's BIRDS OF AMERICA, originally engraved, printed and coloured by R. Havell & Son, this edition published by The Ariel Press, London 1972
In matching glazed frames,
"Passenger Pigeon" 101.5cm x 76cm overall, "Le Petit Caporal" and "White-crowned pigeon" each 104.5cm x 71cm overall, the others 71cm x 104.5cm overall (5) (frames at fault)
All five prints are framed under glass and have not been removed for inspection. The colours of all the prints are reasonably clean and bright, but will have faded somewhat over time. The Passenger Pigeon and White-crowned Pigeon each show losses to the glass in the top right and top left corners respectively. The paper in these areas has darkened significantly relative to the rest of the print. Outside these areas, the paper has darkened somewhat over time. The paper of the other prints has darkened to a lesser extent, and each shows a slight ripple to the paper. The Passenger Pigeon shows an area of staining to the area behind the top bird. The Willow Grouse shows an area of staining to the centre of the print.
