WW1 Military Medal & 1914-15 Star trio to 84585 Bmbr A. Downie R.A. (14 D.A.C. R.F.A. on MM, Gnr R.F.A. on Star) number had been officially corrected on MM, very fine or better. Alexander Downie's MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 27th October 1916. With copied MIC, MM MIC, SWB roll and 2 newspaper articles from Shield Daily News dated January 1917 which state:
Bomardier A. Downie R.F.A. of 21 Windsor Gardens, North Shields, has been awarded the MM for services rendered at the bombardment prior to the Loos offensive in September 1915. Downie was wounded on January 15th, 1916, at La Brique, and has since lost his right arm. H enlisted on August 12th 1914."
He landed in France 20/5/15 and was discharged 6/9/16 due to sickness and issued Silver War Badge No B18945 (seems odd that having lost his arm, the reason for discharge was sickness). (See photo) (R)
