Volunteer Artillery Victorian Officer Home Service Helmet circa 1878-1901. Good example of black melton cloth covered four panel high crown. Pointed front peak with silver metal edging and rounded rear brim with leather edging. Silvered metal rear crown spine with silvered metal top cruciform and ball mount. Silvered metal side rosettes securing a matching chinchain with leather velvet backing (stitching faults and verdigris). Royal Arms Volunteer Artillery helmet plate, the gun with mounted wheel. The under-brim with green leather lining. Brown leather and purple silk sweatband. Quilted silk crown lining. Minor service wear.
