Illustration Interest Original Watercolour By Patience Arnold 1901 - 1922 'Fairies In Rainstorm' Patience Arnold was born in Royston Yorkshire but spent her childhood in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. Arnold studied at the Harris School of Art, Preston and became a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Art. In 1967 Patience set up a studio in the Lake District and continued to produce unique and whimsical illustrations for books, greetings cards and private commissions which brought her national recognition. Our client's mother was a long term friend of Arnold's and many of the works presented here were commissioned privately and have remained in our clients private collection. The works have never been offered for sale commercially until now. Presented here is an original watercolour depicting a group of fairies caught in a rain shower, in the foreground elves ride snails and a fairy is carried in a sedan chair. To the background are toadstool houses, the rain is picked out in opaque white watercolour. Signed by the artist 'Patience Arnold, 1989' to bottom right. Excellent condition, framed and mounted under glass. 15.5 x 11.5 inches
