Joseph Sydney Willis Hodges (1828-1900) British, a large portrait of Charles Townsend Murdoch MP (1837-1898), oil on canvas, 110.5 cm x 85 cm in a carved giltwood frame.
Footnote: Provenance: Formerly displayed at the Whittington Hospital, North London. Murdoch had been involved in the setting up of the Great North Hospital, Holloway Road, nearby. He was an MP for Reading from 1885-1898, and another version of this portrait hangs in Reading Town Hall currently. Following it's removal from the Whittington, it was sent to a film production company where it was used as a background prop, and was then saved from disposal by the current owner.
